looking unto Jesus, the author......
The entirety of the Hebrews 11 narrative has been a series of narratives. Stories about peoples lives and experiences with struggle and adversity. More importantly, it is a compact narrative about the people’s experience with God. It reads of God’s faithfulness and deliverance no matter what the circumstances. It is both a journal and a novel at the same time.
When we look at our own story as a people, it too reads like a journal and a novel. Recent years have shown more movies and television programs written by Black authors seeking to tell the story of our history. This summer Nikole Hanna Jones and the New York Times produced the ground breaking work 1619 to commemorate 400 years of Black people in America. In theaters we see Harriott premiering. Regardless of the mode; movie, television, radio, or book, each has an author, a producer and a director.
Behind our story is an author. That author is Jesus. If Jesus controls the narrative then we can rest assured that everything will be alright. Just picture the son of God sitting down at a desk, picking up a feather tipped pen, and authoring the story of you and I. It is often tragic, dramatic, hopeful, disappointing, comedic, aspirational, and seemingly impossible. Yet in the end we know who controls the outcome.
Our ancestors have had their parts in the script. They have set the stage and the backstory. Now it’s our turn. It’s our chapter. Let’s make the most of it!
Lord as you write my story, order my steps. Show me your will and your way. I want to be everything you desire of me. Lead me, guide me all the way. In Jesus Name.
