The surviving remnant of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward.
I love this imagery that the prophet paints. He speaks of a people who have been uprooted and displaced by exile. Out of the people there is a small group who shall not only survive, but prosper. Their prosperity is directly related to their relationship with God. The more they are rooted, the more fruitful they will be. In fact, the deeper downward their roots, the farther upward their fruit.
The more depth we have in Christ the more fruit we will bear. The joy of getting deep with Jesus is indescribable. You can't encapsulate it in a devotion. It must be felt and realized to understand. Much like you don't see how deep the roots of a tree are but you know when their deep by the height of the tree and the bounty of its fruit.
Lord make me deeper. Root me in the depths on your word and your love. Takemy roots downward so my fruit can abound upward. Even today, and everyday, take me deeper than the day before. In Jesus Name!
