Hebrews 12:2 (NKJV)
2 looking unto Jesus.......
If you have ever watched a horse race you will see that the horses have blinders. These blinders keep them from becoming distracted by the numerous things around them. Their focus is on the race and what is before them. If they lose focus they will never reach the finish line.
We all need something greater than ourselves to look to for inspiration and example as we run the race of life. This reality is why this series has been so critical. It gives us a framework to look at examples of champions of the faith who have come before us. This forward look backwards is about gaining perspective and inspiration. Ultimately we need the same source of focus that our ancestors had because inspiration is not enough.
The writer of Hebrews comes towards the end of his discourse by giving his audience the ultimate source of focus. As we run the race we ought to look to Jesus, the one to whom our ancestors looked. It’s when we keep our minds stayed on Jesus that we can do more than persevere we can actually thrive. If we only look at the great cloud of witnesses we can become distracted, lose focus, and miss the point of it all.
Lord give me the mind and tenacity to keep my mind and eyes stayed on you! Put blinders on my eyes so I am not distracted by anything but that I stray focused on you. In Jesus name.
Question for Meditation
How do you plan to keep your mind stayed on Jesus?
Now pray God would give you the ability to focus on Jesus
