They (those who meditate on God's word) are like trees planted by streams of water, which yield their fruit in its season, and their leaves do not wither. In all that they do, they prosper.
Spending quiet, deliberate, devoted, time with God, meditating on God's word has been the singularly most powerful thing in my life. Taking time with God has taught me patience. I'm not as anxious about things as I once was. When trouble arises, I leave it with God. I am able to hear God's purpose for me and my discernment is sharper. When we quiet ourselves and train ourselves to hear God's voice in the stillness, it becomes easier to hear it in the noise.
Here the Psalmist gives us a key benefit to meditating on God's word. It revives us, replenishes, refreshes, prospers us. It makes us fruitful. My life and my ministry truly prospered when I was planted by streams of water. There is no other way to be fruitful than to be immersed in God's loving presence daily.
Lord I want to stay planted in the streams of water. I want to be nourished by the power on your word and the presence of your majesty. Jesus I want to be fruitful and prosper in my life, ministry, and relationships. I want to be fruitful on your terms not mine. Give me the discipline and desire to meditate on your word day and night. In Jesus name
